Hexham MP who lost twin children in pandemic criticizes Prime Minister Boris Johnson for parties in Downing Street

Guy Opperman, pensioner and MP for Hexham, has criticized the prime minister for his participation in several number 10 lockdown drinks parties.

The MP told the BBC in May 2020 that he could not visit his wife and sons in the hospital due to Covid restrictions at the time.

His twin children, Rafe and Teddy, sadly died not long after.

This tragedy took place at the same time as Boris Johnson was attending a BYOB party in the garden at Downing Street.

In a speech to the BBC’s Politics North program, he said: “I feel quite emotional about this, because in May 2020, my wife and children were sick and they went to the hospital.

“I was not able to go there to support them.

“And I have voters who could not go to nursing homes, to funerals who openly obeyed the rules, and clearly in No. 10 at the time, there were quite a few people who did not behave properly.

“I feel quite emotional that I was not able to support my wife and children.”

This celebration also took place the night before the Queen followed the rules and attended only Prince Philips’ funeral.

Sir. Opperman, however, has said the prime minister should remain in office and that the investigation into Downing Street parties should be completed.

The MP for Hexham said Johnson needed to change his ways and get better people around him.
