Summary of Job Duties:
The Assistant Security Manager (ASM)
assists the Executive Security Manager (ESM) by performing administrative and technical duties related to the execution of division programs
and tasks in support of the police department mission. The ASM is the first line supervisor for the Security Officer staff. The ASM
supervises and manages the Security Officers who provide a variety of security and safety related functions while involved in safeguarding
students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position ensures proper security for equipment and real property in assigned area and
communicates effectively and respectfully with members of the campus community, upper management, supervisors and subordinates. This
position develops and manages staffing schedules to maintain proper coverage. This position conducts analysis of activity on campus to
provide services that will enhance safety, efficiency and orderly operations. This position assists in the development, deployment and
monitoring of the campus security camera program. This position provides consult for security and access control for new construction and
remodels on campus. The ASM performs duties in the command post and field for the conduct of special events. The ASM needs to be a customer
focused, team-oriented, creative problem solver who possesses the ability to remain calm during emergency and non-emergency situations while
supervising and leading a team of Security Officers during a diverse array of situations.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive
attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with


Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a
    high school diploma; plus three years of experience in security, law enforcement, fire safety, or a related field, including one year in a
    leadership capacity.
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.


  • Completion of 60 educational hours at an institution of higher education OR equivalent experience in a security
    or law enforcement related field
  • Certification in CPR

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal,
    state, and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial passenger vehicle
  • Knowledge of governmental
    budgeting and purchasing processes
  • Knowledge of adult learning, teaching, training and coaching techniques
  • Skill in
    providing protection services to individuals on campus
  • Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and
  • Proficient skills in basic computer programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Email, etc.)
  • Proficient skill is security
    camera management and development software
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform
    first-line supervision and leadership of personnel in a public safety environment
  • Ability to perform leadership of individuals and
    teams under stressful, potentially life-threatening conditions
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns
  • Ability
    to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Ability to conduct detailed task analysis and mapping for process
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
  • Ability to drive and operate various motor
    vehicles and other modes of transportation
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
  • Ability to detect problems and
    report information to appropriate personnel
  • Ability to conduct public presentations
