Kate Middleton’s next royal title will be ‘bittersweet’ for Prince William, says source

When Kate Middleton walked down the aisle of Westminster Abbey to marry her university sweetheart in 2011, she became the Duchess of Cambridge.

She has held the impressive title for 10 years and her children use the Cambridge moniker as their last name in school.

But as Kate and her husband William ascend the line of succession, there is a change that the Duchess gets a new title.

When Prince Charles becomes king, William becomes heir to the throne and will probably assume the title Prince of Wales.

It is not a given that William gets the title as it is to be assigned to the heir of the monarch.

Experts, however, predict that it is more than likely that Charles will pass on his title to William.

If this happens, Kate would automatically become Princess of Wales. The last person to have this title was, of course, Williams’ late mother Princess Diana. Charles’ second wife, Camilla, decided not to use the title out of respect for Diana.

And according to a source, if and when this is to happen, it would be an emotional moment for William.

They told the Telegraph: “I’m sure it’s going to be a bit of a bittersweet moment.

“This is her son and his wife, so in some ways it will come full circle – but it will also be a poignant reminder of what we all lost.”

Diana died after a car accident in Paris in August 1997 at the age of only 36.

Kate never got to meet her mother-in-law, but she often pays tribute to her by wearing jewelry from her amazing jewelry collection.

Most famously, Kate wears Diana’s diamond and sapphire engagement ring.

Meanwhile, in two of her 40th birthday portraits, Kate also wears a pair of beautiful pearl and diamond earrings that once belonged to Diana.

Photographer Paolo Roversi, who snapped the portraits, said: “Taking the portrait of Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cambridge, was a true honor for me and a moment of pure joy.

“I was touched by her warm and friendly welcome and enchanted by her shining eyes that reflected the beauty of her soul and her smile that showed the generosity of her heart.

“It was a deep and rich experience for me, an unforgettable moment. I have met a wonderful person, a person who with his positive energy can bring hope to the whole world.”

The images, which are part of the National Portrait Gallery’s Coming Home exhibition, will be displayed in Berkshire, where Kate grew up, St. Andrews, where she met Prince William, and Anglesey, their first marital home.
