Tom Holland admits MCU’s biggest Spider-Man problem

Tom Holland has just admitted the biggest problem with MCU’s Spider-Man, which is something there Spider-Man: No Way Home solves. Marvel Studios and Sony’s latest collaborative project saw Peter Parker review his biggest personal mission to date. In addition to dealing with the consequences of his secret identity coming out to the public, he also had to contain several multiversal villains who came to Earth.

It is an understatement to say that there was a massive expectation of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Nearly a month since its release, the film has already earned more than $ 1.4 billion at the global box office in the midst of a pandemic, making it even more impressive. It also remains a favorite topic of conversation among fans, especially because it featured the return of beloved Spider-Man actors, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who repeated their comic book roles. But amidst its multiverse narrative and big cameos, Spider-Man: No Way Home did not lose sight of the fact that it is a Dutch film. It even solves the biggest problem many have had with his wall crawler ever since he joined MCU in 2016.

In an interview with Sony Pictures JapanHolland admitted that his Spider-Man had mostly been treated like a young hero who does not have his own agency, especially since he has no shortage of potential mentors in the MCU. The actor added that he is happy about it Spider-Man: No Way Home solves this effectively as it forced Peter to grow up. Read his full comments below:

“It’s really been Spider-Boy, and this movie is about him becoming Spider-Man. It’s about him growing up, making his own decisions, and stepping up to the plate like a full-blown Avenger. And it’s been real. nice to have that dovetail between myself in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now who I am and who Peter Parker is in Spider-Man: No Way Home. “

“[Spider-Man: No Way Home] is definitely the last chapter in the Homecoming series. Jon Watts has done such a wonderful job of creating this genre of superhero movies that as such has not been told before. The superhero movie about the kid … it’s the small town, really your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. This movie is about him stepping into bigger shoes and growing up and becoming Spider-Man. “

Peter Parker says goodbye in Spider-Man No Way Home

After Sony scrapped their plans for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, they teamed up with Marvel Studios to launch a new wall-crawler located in MCU. Instead of debuting through his first independent film, Holland’s Spider-Man first appeared in Captain America: Civil War, where his relationship with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) was established. Despite their funny dynamics, not everyone was thrilled that Peter was closely associated with Tony Stark, and some quoted that he barely has any identity other than being the Avengers mentee. When Stark died in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios collaborated Peter with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in Spider-Man: Far from home and then with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But after the wizard’s last memory spell, Peter now has to act on his own, giving him the chance to establish himself outside of his Avengers connections.

Fortunately, Marvel Studios can continue to correct their major Spider-Man bug. After Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Netherlands is confirmed to repeat its role going forward in the MCU, with Spider-Man 4 officially in active development. So while it may take a while before this Peter reunites with other heroes in the franchise, his next adventure will establish him as a whole hero before joining the inevitable Avengers 5.
