A bank director has thrown away three dress sizes in less than six months after she had reconsidered her lifestyle.
Adele Fiene from Wollongong, New South Wales, loved to “wine and eat” in her 20s – but because of an equally active sports life, weight was never an issue for her.

But after becoming a first-time mother as a 30-year-old, the weight began to pile up after she was no longer able to train after an injury.
Takeaway meals became her favorite lunch option, and dinners included large portions of pasta or fried – complete with processed carbs, full-fat cheeses and sauces along with a few glasses of wine.
“When I hit 30, weight gain became a problem for me,” says Adele, now 39 7 life.
After struggling to fit into her new work uniform, the mother of three – who weighed 86.6 kilos and wore size 16 clothes – knew she had to overcome her poor eating habits to stay healthy.
In just 22 weeks, she slimmed down to a size 10 after shedding 20 kilos.
Before body transformation
Adele says her weight gain started after the birth of her first child.
“Before I was pregnant, socializing was a big part of my life. I was extremely active, practiced several sports a week, ran regularly and got plenty of sleep, ”she says.
“But after I had my first child, my physical activity declined and the food was always on the run where I would make bad choices.
“Takeaway was my wish, especially for lunch. I enjoyed pizza, chinese, pasta and curries. Breakfast was limited, maybe some toast if I had time. Dinner was always large portions. “
As an avid baker and cook, the mother tells us that she regularly ate baked delicacies.
“I love baking and cooking with my kids on the weekends. But before we lost weight, we made muffins, cupcakes, cookies and other sweets, and we never missed licking the bowl, ”she says.
Adele says she completely stopped exercising after injuring her knee.
“I played netball until I got my knee dislocated. Since I stopped playing sports and running, the weight has crept in,” she says.
After her third baby, she decided to take responsibility for her health.
“I wanted to go back to work and fit comfortably in my new uniform in a size 14. Before the pregnancy, I considered ordering a size 16 in the work uniform as the 14 was tight,” she recalls.
“While I was at home with my new baby, I researched various eating plans.”
She discovered the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet – a scientifically formulated weight loss program that focuses on a high-protein, low-GI meal plan developed by scientists at the Australian National Science Agency.

The diet offers a sustainable approach to healthy weight loss and claims to reduce cravings by focusing on foods with higher protein and low GI, which keep you full for longer.
“I started in May 2019 and it felt like it was easy to follow. I loved that you could get indulged and still lose weight,” she says.
Adele says she began her weight loss journey by “making less healthy choices.”
“I started by reducing my alcohol intake, drinking lots of water and choosing better snacks,” she says.
“I also got better meal planning and preparation habits. I followed a meal plan and spent every Sunday shopping and then cooking for the week. It then left the rest of the week to me, ensuring I stayed on track.
“I also followed the training program, which was a lot like what I did with my physiotherapist, and it suited my injury well.”
In less than six months, her weight dropped to 66.6 kilos.
Typical day on a plate
Breakfast: Ricotta cheese on high-protein bread with canned peaches and a sprinkle of cinnamon plus a frothy latte
Lunch: Tuna nicoise salad and a protein-rich yogurt with berries
Dinner: Soy-baked salmon with snowball salad
Snacks: Veggie sticks, diet jelly or air-popped popcorn
Life after weight loss
Adele – who now wears clothes in sizes 10 to 12 – has kept the weight off for more than a year.
“I do a circuit in the gym three days a week for 40 minutes and try to take 10,000 steps a day. When I get home I play with the kids outside to get extra exercise. It all helps,” she says.
When she looks at old photos of herself, the mother says she feels “good”.
“The pictures are a big motivator if I surrender. I look at them and know I can do this and I have control,” she says.
