Position Summary

Portland Community College’s Disability Services Office is looking for an Accessibility Specialist to join our team.  Under the direction of the Disability Services Director, the Accessibility Specialist plans and facilitates the implementation of appropriate accommodations, auxiliary aids and support services for students with disabilities. The Specialist also interprets and ensures PCC’s compliance with local, state and federal laws as they apply to disability and post-secondary educational environments and functions as a resource for staff and faculty throughout the college by providing technical assistance and guidance on how to accommodate and ensure equal access for students.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.

Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Student centered approach that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusion, development, and growth
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disability laws and regulations, including the ADA as amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Knowledge of information and communication technologies, including computer systems, mobile devices, and assistive technologies, coupled with ability to articulate the benefits/drawbacks to students
  • Experience developing and facilitating learning opportunities – especially those related to working with faculty on proactive design
  • Experience managing large scale accessibility projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience with advanced alternate format techniques such as tactile graphic creation, audio description, and accessible STEAM content

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Rehabilitation, or related field (NOTE: Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.)
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating disability documentation, including psychoeducational, psychological and medical evaluations; assessing medical and technical evaluations for disability accommodations; developing and presenting in-service training
  • Experience working directly with student/adults who experience disability

$56,939 to $60,992 (Step 3); based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an office environment. Occasional evening and weekend hours required. Incumbents may travel to businesses or college fairs requiring the use of a personal vehicle.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimal physical effort is required.  Learned physical skill is required to perform keyboarding.
