Fire leads to school closure on Monday for St. James Collegiate and George Waters Middle School

According to the St. James-Assiniboia School Division, the school will be canceled for students at St. James Collegiate and George Waters Middle School on Monday due to a fire Sunday morning.

The division tells CTV News that it has notified students’ families of the situation and hopes to have more information on status and plans for the remaining two days of school before the holidays by Monday afternoon.

In a press release, the city said firefighters responded to a monitored alarm at the school at 10:30 a.m. Sunday

When the fire service arrived, smoke was seen coming from the building and the crews launched an offensive attack. The fire was brought under control just before 12 noon.

WFPS said no one was found in the building after a search and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates were available.
