Nicola Benedetti rose to fame at the age of 16 after being named BBC’s Young Musician of the Year, and now a “remarkable” portrait of her has praised another young Scottish performer.
Calum Stevenson, 23, of Bonnybridge, completed the £10,000 commission after becoming the youngest person to be crowned Sky Portrait Artist of the Year.
His depiction of Benedetti, 34, performing at Westminster Abbey, immersed in her music, has been unveiled at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh.
The painting is the result of the ten-month competition, which challenged artists to paint portraits of other famous sitters, including Alexa Chung and David Olusoga.
