Maine sees first widespread snow of the season

After a mild and windy Friday, temperatures drop Friday night as cooler air pours into Maine. That cold air is key to providing southern and central Maine with widespread snow without mixing on Saturday night. Snow will begin mid-afternoon Saturday and will begin lightly. It will intensify on Saturday night, making the roads slippery for anyone who has to travel. Much of southern and western Maine is likely to fall 4 to 7 inches of snow from the storm. August and the points to the north and east will likely see 2 to 4 inches of snow, with slightly lesser amounts in northern Maine. The National Weather Service in Gray has issued a winter storm watch for southern Maine from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. The snow will turn into snow showers early Sunday morning and end by the morning hours, with much colder air behind it. Overnight lows Sunday with fresh snowfall will be inland and near 12 degrees in Portland in the single digits. Expect a sunny but very cold Monday. Much of next week looks calm and cold leading up to Christmas, but cold enough to keep this snow going all holiday.
